Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

CHS students are invited to apply for the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. To be considered, students must fill out an application and submit an essay prior to the Fall deadline, which is Nov. 25, 2019. The objectives of the council are explained below.

SUPERINTENDENT’S STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council provides input on ways to improve communication with students and obtain input on school system initiatives. Members are secondary school students who reflect the student body of the Chanute High School student population. Meetings are held 3 times during second semester.

What is the structure of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council?

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is composed of secondary school students, grades 9-12. The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will discuss topics such as; academic progress, self-image, goal setting, respect, conflict resolution, safe and supportive school environment, college and career readiness, profile of a graduate and a host of other topics pertinent to high school.

What is the process for students interested in serving on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council?

If you are interested in serving on the advisory council, you will need to submit an application. The deadline to submit an application for the 2019-2020 council is Monday, November 25, 2019. Applications are available in the front office of Chanute High School or may be printed from the Chanute Public Schools website at www.usd413.org.   

When will the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council meetings be held?

Wednesday, February 12, 2020, 11:30am

Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 11:30am

Lunch will be provided.

 

What will be expected of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council?

• Attend all scheduled meetings.

• Prepare for each meeting as needed.

• Work in a collaborative manner with each other and with school system staff.

• Express views and opinions openly, constructively, and respectively.

Although the superintendent will develop an agenda for each meeting, students may submit discussion items for consideration to Tracy Maring, Assistant Superintendent.

The application must be submitted/received by 5:00 PM Monday, Nov. 25, 2019.
