Band teacher recognized at SEK concert

A long-time musician and director but a first-year teacher to Chanute was recognized this month at the SEK District music concert held at Pittsburg.

Jan Rogers was presented with the Outstanding Music Educator Award by the Kansas Music Educators Association, while at the SEK District Honor Band/Choir/Orchestra concert at the Bicknell Center for the Arts at PSU.

Rogers teaches band to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at Royster Middle School and to Chanute High School students who enroll in band.

For the past 18 years, she developed a strong music program for sixth graders through high school at Neodesha. She has also directed the Mid-Continent Community Band at Independence, and the orchestra at Neewollah for 14 years.
